Q) What is a Lifegroup?
A) LifeGroups are small groups that either meet on campus or in homes to offer a group study in a more relaxed and intimate setting. LifeGroups are designed to provide an opportunity to develop deeper friendships, and are an ideal environment for spiritual growth. They also promote accountability relationships, maximum participation, serving within the church and reaching out to our community.
Q) Why should I be part of a group?
A) There are three reasons to be in a Lifegroup. First, you’ll be able to serve the community with a team of people like yourself. Second, you’ll have the chance to make some new friends. Third, you’ll grow as a person and you’ll grow in your faith. A Lifegroup is where you can help make a difference, build friendships and become a better person than you are already!
Q) How do I find a group?
A) The church can help you find one just check with the office for current groups – or start your own with your friends and neighbors.
Q) Can I join a group now?
A) Yes! To find out how to get involved and what studies are going on now, contact the church office or click on this link LifeGroups.
Q) What if I want to try a different Lifegroup?
A) No problem. Not every group is the perfect fit the first time you go. The key is to find a group where you connect and have a relational fit, so don’t hesitate to keep trying until you find a group that works for you. No one will be offended if you visit their group and end up settling into another one. Our concern is helping you find the group that’s right for you!
Q) Does the group or group leader pick what they will study or is that decided by the church?
A) Most of the year, the decisions about curriculum will be up to the individual Lifegroup. This allows groups to meet the specific needs they see among their members. Once or twice a year we will ask all the groups to take part in church-wide studies. A common experience brings the diverse groups together and creates unity among the entire Westside family.
Q) I feel God is calling me to lead a group, but I haven’t taught anything before.
A) We can help you find a study that you can feel comfortable leading. Many studies are DVD based, and if you can push play to get it started, you can simply lead a discussion after the bulk of the teaching is done. The bottom line – God equips those He calls and promises to provide wisdom if you seek His face. We aren’t looking for preachers, but simply people that are ready to make a difference in their communities.
Q) I want to start a group but I don’t know what to study.
A) That’s where we can help. Check out the “Start a Lifegroup” page for a suggested list of studies and resources or contact Pastor John Shaw.
